Vedang Raina reveals Jigra shooting impacted his mental health; says, “I couldn’t get out of that zone for 2-3 hours”

Vedang Raina made his debut in Bollywood with Zoya Akhtar’s ‘The Archies’ which was released on Netflix. And now it’s time for his theatrical release, co-starring with Alia Bhatt in the lead role. Vedang Raina will be seen in Vasan Bala’s Jigra, where plays the role of Bhatt’s younger brother in the film. The recent trailer is packed with emotions and actions and doesn’t leave room for audiences not to watch the film.

In an interview with Mansworld India, Vedang revealed that during one particularly intense scene, he ended up taking self-imposed solitary confinement for as long as 8 hours to process his emotions.

Vedang Raina reveals Jigra shooting impacted his mental health

During the interview, Vedang Raina shared his experience shooting Jigra. He said, “Alia [Bhatt] would be in the scene, hit all the right notes with precision and get out of the character as soon as she hears ‘cut’. But I couldn’t, it is not easy for me to come in and out of character. It did impact my mental health a bit.”

Continuing he added, “On the very first day, I was to shoot a rather emotionally intense scene, and I shut myself in my vanity, put the lights off, switched off my phone, and told people to just leave me alone—I sat there listening to my music. Now, as luck would have it, the shot was supposed to happen at 3 pm but got delayed and we started rolling around 8 pm. So, I was in that self-imposed solitary confinement for about 8 long hours, and it really started impacting me.”

He went on to add, “Even when the scenes were done, I couldn’t get out of that zone for 2/3 hours. I realised that it is not going to work like this, and after that, I have decided not to put myself through such a thing… it is not worth it and I believe there are other ways to access that emotion, I just need to find which one works for me the best.”

Vedang’s character, Ankur Anand, is a prisoner facing a brutal prison sentence. And the actor had to immerse himself deeply in the character’s emotions to bring authenticity to the role. The experience took a toll on his mental health. And he found himself needing some time to recharge and reflect on his emotions. Jigra is set to release in theatres on October 11. Vedang’s performance in the film is expected to be highly praised.
